“Prescription drug abuse has reached epidemic levels in the United States” (McHugh, Nielson, Weiss, 2015). In 2016, there were 1,404 overdose deaths, this was up from 1, 248 from the previous year (B. Estep, 2017). This is 1.404 too many unnecessary deaths. Deaths that could have been prevented if laws were enacted to help with putting the drug offender into rehabilitation as soon as possible instead of arresting them over and over again, which clearly has proven to be the wrong decision...
